Remembrance Day

11/11/23, 12:00 am

A Remembrance Ceremony is held at the Ipswich Worshops Museum with a service commencing at 10.40am.

At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous warfare.

The allied armies had driven the German invaders back, having inflicted heavy defeats upon them over the preceding four months.
In November the Germans called for an armistice (suspension of fighting) in order to secure a peace settlement. They accepted allied terms that amounted to unconditional surrender.

As a result, one day in the year has involved the whole of Australia in solemn ceremonies of remembrance, gratitude and national pride for all our men and women who have fought and died in all wars.

That day is ANZAC Day -- 25 April. However Remembrance Day services are held each year to commemorate the end of WW1 on 11th November.
